FAQ's
Refer to your user manual supplied with your washing machine before using this product.
I used an Anti-Bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner as per directions, but my bowl is now dull (it has lost its shine)?
Firstly, don’t be alarmed. Anti-Bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner has not damaged your washing machine. Your machine will continue to operate as usual. The dullness of the bowl is just a visual thing – there is no underlying mechanical damage. What has happened is that the stainless steel bowl has been plated with weaker mild steel inside the machine. This is just a visual thing and will not affect the machine’s performance now or in the future.
Why is a foul smell and black gunk/ flakes coming from the machine?
This is good; it tells us the product has done its job. Foul smells and black flakes result from a machine that hasn’t been cleaned for a long time and has a lot of build-up in its pipes and behind the drum. Sometimes, the build-up is so heavy and stubborn that one treatment is not powerful enough to remove it all. The smell is because the top layer of grime has now been removed, and the bacteria has been exposed. We recommend using Magic Heavy Duty Washing Machine Cleaner to remove stubborn build-up and then using Magic Anti-bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner every month to prevent this build-up from reoccurring. Some machines require the treatment to be repeated, but once clean, you can return to the monthly maintenance cleans.
Do I use the pre-wash setting on my washing machine?
No, we recommend that you select a regular long wash and follow the instructions on the box. You want to control the volume of water, temperature and rinse cycles, and the pre-wash will interfere with this.
Do I select the drum clean setting on my washing machine?
No, we recommend that you select a regular long wash and follow the instructions on the box. Drum cleaning often uses water hotter than 60oC, which can dull the stainless steel drum’s appearance.
The instructions say not to use it on an enamel bowl. Is using it on a polyurethane bowl okay?
Polyurethane is plastic, so using Magic Anti-Bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner in your machine is okay.
Can I use this product on an enamel drum?
We do not recommend it as these drums are usually made with weaker steel. If there are micro-cracks in the coating, it can encourage rust on the drum surface. Please note that the drum will rust with these cracks over time, regardless of whether you use our washing machine cleaners. Use at your own risk.
I have a Maytag washing machine with a polymer bowl/drum. Is it safe to use on my machine?
Yes, our washing machine cleaners are safe to use with polyma.
We do not have hot water plumbed to our washing machine. Can we use cold water?
Magic Anti-bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner works best in water temperatures around 50°C. Some current models have a hot water element in the washing machine – please check your user manual. If your machine is a top-loader, you can manually fill it with 8 parts hot water to 2 parts cold water. Note that hot water systems generally store water around 50-60oC in temperature.
Can I use Magic Anti-bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner in my tumble dryer?
NO!! We recommend diluting Magic Spill & Spot Remover, lightly spraying on and wiping with a dry cloth.
What setting can I use if I do not have a 60°C wash option?
We have found that a “cotton wash” cycle is an optimal option. The average cotton wash cycle (do not select pre-wash) is 2-3 hours – the product needs this time to work effectively.
Is it safe to use in a washer/ dryer combined machine?
Yes, on a wash cycle only. Please do not use it when the dryer option is selected.
Can I wash my clothes at the same time?
We do not recommend washing clothes when using Magic Anti-bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner or Magic Heavy Duty Washing Machine Cleaner.
Can I stop the washing cycle and let the product soak?
Absolutely not. Do not stop the wash cycle; let the product soak in the machine. Otherwise, you risk dulling the drum.
Can I run the washing cycle at a hotter temperature for it to work better?
Per our instructions, please do not exceed a 60°C wash – this product does not excel further in hotter temperatures. Otherwise, you risk dulling the drum.
Why doesn’t it clean the rubber seals/ detergent tray?
The Anti-bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner and Heavy Duty Washing Machine Disinfectant do not reach the seal areas. Its formula is made to clean the gunk build-up behind the drum and in the pipes.
Is this safe to use in a Bio-Cycle septic system?
Yes, it is safe to use in this system.
I use my grey water in my garden – will the Washing Machine Cleaner kill my plants?
While it is septic and greywater safe, we have not tested it and cannot confirm if it will affect plants. There are so many species, some more finicky than others, and we are unsure if they will react to the acid. In saying this, over 1000s of customers use this with their grey water system, and we have not encountered any problems. There is <10% sulfamic acid PER KG, which is weak once diluted in the washing machine. It’s truly up to the user if you wish to use it.
I have a Bosch Easy Care options at 60°C and Cottons at 60°C, which do I use?
An easy-care wash assumes a smaller load of washing and, therefore, a smaller amount of water. Please select the setting which fills the machine to the maximum water height.
I have an LG WT-R854. It has a sensor and automatically fills up with water, so how do I fill up my machine without clothes in it?
Do not use your fuzzy cycle (auto-fill settings); place it on a heavy-duty cycle.
I have a 6th sense/fuzzy logic machine that determines the load size, so how do I use Magic Washing Machine Deep Cleaner™ without putting clothes in the machine?
The 6th sense/fuzzy logic machines have pre-set water amounts depending on your chosen cycles. Each cycle assumes a pre-programmed weight. The machine doesn’t actually ‘weigh’ the load every time you wash.
Solution: Please check your manual to find the longest cycle, which uses the most water and a temp as close to 60°C as possible! This is generally a cotton wash (not cotton eco).
My washing machine manual tells me not to use a solvent cleaner. Does this product contain this?
Washing Machine Cleaner is an acid-based formula. There are no solvents in this product.
Can I use this cleaner in my bio-cycle tank that has worms?
The Anti-Bacterial Washing Machine Cleaner is entirely safe for septic and grey-water systems. However, we cannot guide its effects in a bio-cycle system, as it has not undergone testing for this specific environment.
